Gutter Repair and Replacement
Your gutters are certainly one of the most important parts of your roof. In many ways the original roof design has to work in the gutters favor. Believe it or not there are gutter systems that are just sort of there, but they never took into account the natural flow of water through the surface. Of course, ideally that is how you want your gutters to run. There are many things that can cause a gutter problem. We can essentially do one of two things. Either we’ll help you prevent the problem or we’ll help you solve the problem once it has come about.
Gutter Inspections When we talk about overall roofing inspections one area of your roof that we’re typically very concerned about are your gutters and downspout. Here is why; they are meant to allow water to pass through the roof without sticking around anywhere. Helping to prevent all sorts of leaks and overall moisture issues. Which are, certainly the cause of most roofing problems. They can get filled up with debris though and just like anything that you fill up to much they can explode or overflow. A big part of gutter care is making sure that they are not going to explode anytime soon. Should I Be Thinking About Adding Gutter Guards? That depends on the type of roof and the type of gutters that you have. Many gutters are already designed to make debris entering them much harder, while at the same time allowing water to flow through them freely. Yet, if you constantly suffer from gutters that are filled with debris adding gutter guards can be a good idea. Another option could be not allowing your trees and plants to grow too much. This sounds a bit out of our line of work. Yet, a lot of times that debris that is causing the problems comes from within your own property. How Long Do Gutters Last? This is something that a lot of people tend to lose track of. Your tiles, shingles, or even metal roof is supposed to last x number of years right? Do you know how long your gutters are meant to last? Most of the time the gutters are not made from the same durable materials that the rest of the roof is. So they can have a much smaller lifespan. If they fail, they can in turn break the rest of the roof. This chain of events usually leads to nothing good. Be sure you know what your gutters are made out of. They can last maybe up to 20 years copper gutters can last a little bit more than that, but keep that number in mind! Can Broken Gutters Be Repaired? Should a broken gutter be repaired or is it best to replace the whole thing? This is a debate that we have often. A lot of times the whole gutter system is connected so if there is a break it may not be feasible to remove all of your gutter system and get a new one. At the end of the day it comes down to the extent of the damage, the age of the gutters, and other factors that we can help you dissect to make the right decision. |
